
Volunteer Job Descriptions:
Assistant Coach
Assist the coach of your son/daughter’s team with running practice and playing games. You should be able to recognize a baseball, but no previous experience needed. Requires 5-6 hrs per week.
Assistant Umpire Coordinator
Assist the Umpire Coordinator (just like it sounds) in arranging umpires for games. If you are good at coordinating and dealing with teenagers, this job is for you. You will not have to recruit the umpires, just make sure they know where to go and when to be there using phone and e-mail. Requires 3-4 hrs throughout the season.
Coach
This is one of the most important jobs in our league. You will be responsible for all aspects of managing and coaching a team. Our league is an instructional league, so it would help if you had some baseball experience. If you don’t (but have a great attitude) we will get you the help you need. You will have a significant impact on what our kids learn and how much they like playing baseball. There are 2 games per week and one practice. Including planning practice, this requires 5-6 hrs per week.
Facilities/Maintenance
During the season, assist the league fields coordinator with periodic or pre/post-game field upkeep. If you like to garden, this is a perfect job for you. Expect no more than 2-3 hrs throughout the season.
Field Cleanup (During season)
Help to make sure fields are cleaned up following games by working with the team managers to get their teams to clean up after themselves. If you are frustrated by chasing after your kids to do this at home, you should find a different job. Expect no more than 2-3 hrs throughout the season.
Field Renovation (Start of season)
Before the season, assist the league fields coordinator with periodic or pre/post-game field upkeep. If you like to garden, this is a perfect job for you. Requires 2-3 hrs in total.
Fields Commissioner
Work with the league fields commissioner to insure the minors fields are kept in good working order. Coordinate the activity of the Field Renovation, Fields/Maintenance, and Field Clean up volunteers. Requires 1-2 hrs per week with a heavier load in the beginning of the season.
Monday Practice Volunteer (Pitching Machine Only)
Mondays will be open instructional practices for all players in Pitching Machine. The players will work on their skill development. Parent volunteers are encourage to come out and assist the trainers who will be leading the workouts. The sessions will be held every Monday during the season from 5 to 7 pm at Oak Noll School in Menlo Park.
Opening Day
Assist in the set up of our Opening Day ceremony on April 1st. This includes hanging flags, setting up PA systems, getting coffee and any other tasks determined by the person in charge of coordinating the ceremony. Best for a “morning person”. Requires approximately 2-3 hrs in total.
Photo-Day/Hit-a-thon Help
Assist with planning and execution of our annual fundraiser that will be some time in May. If you are in Venture Capital, this job’s for you. Requires 2-3 hrs in total.
Registrar
Handle registration questions and issues. Registration should be completed by the end of February, so this is a good job for you if you are not a skier. Requires 1-2 hrs per week in Jan/Feb.
Team Parent
Assist your son/daughter’s coach with parent communication, scorekeeping, snack duty coordination, etc. Requires about an hour per week.
Team Communication/Snack Coordinator
Develops and tracks snack schedule for team. Sets up call list and e-mail list and initiates notification list in event of rain outs. Facilitates communication among team parents.
Tournament of Champions (TOC) Committee
We have an annual three day tournament between teams in our neighboring communities. It is a classic hometown rivalry match-up. This job is to assist the TOC coordinator with planning and executing the tournament.
