Biography
Michael brings to Element more than 12 years of venture capital investment experience, and 15 years of experience in developing emerging technologies. His primary areas of investment focus include water and wastewater purification, advanced materials, sensing technologies, advanced fuels, and emissions control and abatement.
Prior to Element, Michael was a Partner at Advent International Corporation where he led investments for the firm's energy technology fund. While at Advent, Michael also served as acting CFO of Catalytic Solutions. Michael joined Advent from EnerTech Capital Partners, where he helped to found EnerTech in 1996, and rejoined the firm after receiving his MBA. He also served as acting COO for a software company in EnerTech's portfolio. Previously, Michael worked for SEI Investments, a financial services firm, holding a variety of business development, product development and sales management positions. While at SEI, he helped to conceptualize and design two investment-related software products, which helped to increase SEI's assets under management by over $1 billion.
Michael serves on, or is an observer to, the boards of directors of AquaVenture Management Inc. (dba Seven Seas), CoalTek Inc., GarrettCom, Inc., LumaSense LLC, and PPT Research, Inc. Previous boards on which Michael has served as a director or observer include Catalytic Solutions, Inc., Coastal Security Systems, Inc., Dymec, Inc., Interactive Media Systems, Inc., Orcom Solutions, Inc., and SyntheSys Research Inc.
Michael received a BA in English from Denison University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
