Ellen is currently the Network Advisor at Draper Fisher Jurvetson. She is also an Industry Fellow at the UC Berkeley’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology. Most recently, she spent several years leading Stanford University’s Media X Program as the Director of Industry Collaboration & Research, connecting industry interest with the technology-related research taking place within the University. Previously, she was a venture capitalist, both as a Managing Director at NeoCarta Ventures and at Softbank Venture Capital. Dr. Levy has worked in executive management level positions in a number of technology companies, including startups Softbook Press (sold to Gemstar/TVGuide) and WhoWhere (sold to Lycos), as well as Interval Research, Apple Computer (out of the office of the CEO), and Price Waterhouse Technology Services. Outside the world of technology, she worked for the Harvard School of Public Health, planning the VIIIth International Conference on AIDS.
She received her B.S. from the University of Michigan, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University in Cognitive Psychology studying human-computer interaction and how people navigate and process information. Her non-profit board memberships include Child Family Health International (2004-present) and The MIND (Mental Illness and Neuroscience Discovery) Institute (2005-06), and she is a Charter Member of the Indus Entrepreneur Organization (TiE) in Silicon Valley. Additionally, she works with several Silicon Valley-based startups as an Advisory Board Member, including LinkedIn, SimplyHired, Rhythm NewMedia, TrueIdentity, and CareerCore. In 2004, Dr. Levy was selected as a White House Fellows Program Regional Finalist.
